Ellen a Senior Adviser at Advance HE (formerly Equality Challenge Unit). She has many years of experience working to promote equality, in particular gender and disability equality in the higher education sector across the UK.  Ellen is an adviser to the Equality and Diversity Panel for the Research Excellence Framework 2021 and was also involved in REF 2014. During her career Ellen has been involved in the development of the codes of practice and technical guidance on the Disability Discrimination Act and the Equality Act. She has also written or been involved in the development of guidance on a range of issues including: the Equality Act, pay equality, male student experience, student pregnancy and maternity and the inclusion of trans staff and students.  Ellen oversaw the gender equality charter mark trial which led to the expansion of Athena SWAN from science to all academic disciplines. Prior to joining ECU Ellen worked for organisations including the London School of Economics and Political Science, Skill (now Disability Rights UK) and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative.
